2022: A Year of Global Community Impact

Dear Fork Farms Community,

We are pleased to share the 2022 Impact Report with you. In the last year, we leaned into our mission of inspiring and empowering everyone to grow fresh food with hydroponic technology, nourish their communities and heal the planet, which is reflected in the data and stories within. As a company, we recognize that developing hydroponic technology is one piece in creating equitable access to fresh food. What uplifts us all towards action is the power of a community cultivated through meaningful connections.

As we reflect on 2022, we find ourselves inspired by our partners’ ingenuity and commitment to bringing fresh food to their communities through hydroponic growing. The results in this report could not have been achieved without them. We want to express our deepest gratitude for their incredible work this year and for the opportunity to be a part of their farming journey.

Our community of farmers are growing with the Flex Farm in 42 states, 8 countries across the globe.

We believe everyone is a farmer.

Educators, nonprofit leaders, food service professionals, chefs, entrepreneurs, and healthcare providers use the power of hydroponics and education to grow fresh food and inspire change.

In 2022, the Fork Farms community had the capacity to grow:

• 4,157,706 servings of leafy greens
• 21,424 harvests of fresh food

By growing fresh food in the Flex Farm, the community was able to save: 

• 2,773,584 food miles
• 337,814 lbs. of food waste food miles
• 19,216,399 gallons of water compared to traditional agriculture
  
  

Recipe Inspiration

DORCHESTER COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Wandalyn Jones, Special Education Teacher at Dorchester County Public Schools is introducing her students to new recipes. Her students grew arugula in the Flex Farm and made pesto served on naan crackers. “What was surprising is how the students really LOVED it. They kept asking for more. So they tried a new food today.”

Foundation Launch

2022 was the official launch year of the Fork Farms Foundation. While the Foundation’s work is just getting underway, we’d like to share two exciting programs in development:

1. Summer School Hunger Relief Program will support schools and after school programs that have indoor farms or outdoor gardens on site. The program provides funding to activate the farms or gardens during the summer months so that yields can be shared with local hunger relief organizations.

2. Gardening with First Responders Program leverages the experiences of growing fresh food and sharing a meal to build positive relationships between first responders, residents in the communities they serve, and youth of Color. It also addresses the need for fresh, nutritious food in underserved neighborhoods by creating hyperlocal access points.
